online identity

I read a recent article on social identity. While reading this I really thought more about it than I usually would have. Previously I didn’t even think about online identity and the choice to use your name or a made up name (sportfan234). I think that it really varies to whether you are using your real identity or an alias. A huge part of the world today is using the Internet. Think about how many different people that is and how different all those peoples lives are.

If you are a artist and you want to make a good online presence I would say that it is good to have your true identity present. If your some guy who likes to post viral videos or you use the net for non-professional uses I don’t see the need for your name to be true to your identity. As for me I use the net for both schoolwork and play. I feel that as a growing designer if I was to have a crazy screen name that reflects my like love for dogs or whatever. Your not showing other people online who see your work that you are serious or that you want to not be anonymous.

So I strongly believe that using your actual identity is much more beneficial to someone who is looking to find new contacts, bloggers, ECT… I feel that people do respond to those little things and tend to make judgments up front, like I like this guys work a lot and would like to be one of his contacts but his name is Katlover43 some may be turned of by that than if it were PaulGdesign. Strong online presence I feel will get you further and your name can make or break that.
